Terms & Conditons

Small Bakes

  1. Payment is required at the time of ordering. If payment is not received the items will not be available for collection or postage.

  2. Small bakes are posted on a Thursday via Hermes 1-2 day service. Boxes usually arrive on the Friday but occasionally the Saturday. I am not able to offer postage to arrive on other specific days unfortunately unless stated (i.e. Mother’s Day boxes). Please check any side doors etc as Hermes sometimes don’t knock!

  3. Payment should be made via bank transfer. Paypal can be accommodated if requested. Details will be sent when your order is confirmed.

  4. If you have any problems with your order when you receive it please get in touch asap. I package all my goods very carefully so there shouldn’t be any damage but if there is please send me a photograph as soon as it is noticed. Refunds/compensation will offered on a discretionary basis.

  5. Brownies and blondies can be frozen to eat at a later date. Freeze as soon as you receive them and defrost before eating (either leave at room temp for a couple of hours or defrost in the microwave for 30 seconds-1 minute). Freeze for a maximum of 2 months in a sealed container to prevent drying out.

*Please reuse, compost or recycle all packaging. My wren stickers are the only item of packaging that must go into your domestic waste bin. If recycling shredded paper, please enclose it in a box or other larger item before adding to your recycling bin. If you are local I am happy to reuse your boxes for a 5% discount on your next order.

Big Cakes

  1. I only take on a limited number of big cakes so that each one can have my undivided attention - no conveyor belts here! Please give a minimum of 1 month’s notice - although more is always better so that I have plenty of time to plan and order any specific or personalised items. Please send all Celebration Cake orders via the Contact Form or by email.

  2. A £20 deposit is due within 5 days of ordering to secure the date, for cakes up to £60. Cakes over £60 require a 50% deposit. The remaining balance is due 1 week before collection. If payments are not received the cake will not be made and I will re-release the date.

  3. Prior to ordering we will discuss your ideas, requirements and budget to see if I am the cake maker for you. I’m very happy for you to be upfront about budget; that way I can provide ideas/suggestions appropriately. I reserve the right to decline a cake order if I do not feel that it is the right fit. Equally, there is no obligation to order after discussion if you feel someone else can better meet your needs.

  4. Upon agreeing a date and confirming your order, an invoice will be sent via email. Please check this carefully as it will contain the collection date and cake brief; please get in contact asap if there are any errors. I will make your cake as close to the collection date/time as possible so that it is fresh; please let me know well in advance of any changes to collection date/time as last minute changes may mean your cake is not ready or is not as fresh as I’d like.

  5. Collection of celebration cakes should be made from the address on the invoice. A time slot will be agreed for the collection date; please abide by this as I may not be available if you are early/late. Local delivery may be considered if needed for a small fee; just ask!

  6. Cakes will be securely boxed, but should be transported on a FLAT surface in your car, usually the passenger footwell or secured in the boot to prevent sliding. If damage is incurred during transport and the cake care instructions below have not been followed, no refund will be due. If damage occurs due to an error on my part, compensation will be offered on a discretionary basis.

  7. There will sometimes be non-edible supports or decor items present in your cake - these will be clearly noted on the box and care should be taken to remove these before eating. If in good condition, boxes can be carefully wiped with a damp cloth and returned for a 5% discount on your next order.

  8. If you are dissatisfied with your cake upon eating please get in touch asap. If there is an error with the bake please send me a photo and description and compensation will be offered on a case by case basis. I cannot offer compensation if the flavour was just not to your taste.

  9. All celebration cakes are 6" as standard and can be made with 2, 3 or 4 layers. I am only offering single tier cakes at present. 8" cakes can be made on request.

  10. I cannot offer cakes with specific branding e.g. TikTok, for copyright reasons. I will also not copy the work of other cake makers, although I am always happy to receive inspiration photos and am very happy working with a theme! I can send a photo of the finished cake via email before collection on request; please note that while I am happy to make minor changes if you are unhappy with the design, major changes may either not be possible or may incur further charges if more ingredients etc. are needed (hopefully this is very unlikely as we will discuss your ideas in detail at the time of ordering).

  • Gluten-free cakes are available but please be aware that my kitchen is a domestic home kitchen and as such is not allergen free. I would therefore not recommend ordering if you need to cater for allergies / coeliac disease.

  • This applies to all allergies as although I can make products without specific allergens and always take all necessary precautions, there is an unavoidable risk of cross-contamination.

Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellations up to two weeks before the collection date will incur a full refund of the deposit. Between two weeks and 48 hours of the collection date, a refund will be given minus any expenditure already incurred e.g. toppers, personalised items, ingredients etc.
  • Cancellations within 48 hours of collection will likely not be eligible for any refund as the cake will have been either partly or completely made.
  • Please let me know as soon as possible if you are unable to collect your cake or have changed your mind so that I can give as much refund as possible and re-release the date.
  • In the unlikely event that Birdsong Bakery has to cancel a celebration cake I will give as much notice as possible as well as a full refund, minus any costs incurred for personalised items e.g. toppers. I will also try to recommend another suitable local baker to help.

Cake Care

  • Your buttercream cake can be stored at room temperature (refrigeration may be needed if it’s warm weather) and will last for 3-5 days.
  • When transporting your cake please place it on a flat surface such as the passenger footwell or secured in the boot - ensuring it does not slide around. A car seat or person’s lap are not suitable surfaces.
  • Boxes should be lifted by the base, not the lid or around the sides as this may cause damage to the cake. Birdsong Bakery cannot take responsibility for any damage incurred after the cake has left the premises if the transport advice has not been followed.
